EXTRAscan – Reading Reality Through Sound and VisionDeveloped by Marco Monfardini and Gianluca SibaldiEXTRAscan is a proprietary technology that combines computer vision and neural networks to transform the physical characteristics of any object, architecture, or living being into real-time audiovisual compositions. Acting as a sensitive scanner, EXTRAscan "reads" the formal and material qualities of what it encounters—translating both its outer appearance and inner structure into sound and video images.Beyond its origin in artistic experimentation, EXTRAscan is conceived as a versatile system applicable in multiple fields. Its capacity to interpret and sonify physical reality makes it suitable for cultural heritage, historic and contemporary architecture, natural environments, design installations, and artistic performances.Through its dynamic and responsive nature, EXTRAscan offers a new way to experience and reinterpret reality, turning spaces, objects, and living forms into immersive sensorial landscapes. It bridges technology and perception, proposing a novel tool for creation, documentation, and exploration where sound and image become extensions of matter itself.
INNER VOICES is a site-specific live audio/video performance based on the realtime scanning of an architecture, monuments or an artistic or design artefact. The project developed by Gianluca Sibaldi and Marco Monfardini uses Extrascan: a specially by the artists developed electronic device: a scanner able to "read" any object, architecture or living being in its formal elements, translating the object's outer and inner dimension in sound and video images. A bar of light is the primary tool in this operation of realtime scanning, overpassing in several sequences the scanned object. It is able to read any object, architectural structure or living being in its formal elements and translate them in real time into sounds and video images. The performance includes live musicians, in particular piano and/or strings interacting with the electronic sound generated by the scanner. Thus a constantly evolving sound dialogue is created between the instruments and the digital sound, created by the analysis of the subject. A video transfiguration resulting from the graphic interpretation of the data collected by Extrascan is visible on screens positioned in the location. An alternative visual and audio dimension is given to the audience by processing the image in real time. The normally static characteristics of the subject acquire a dynamic life, creating an emotional counterpoint. InnerVoices is also a digital reinterpretation of the urban space, which conveys the historical heritage of our countries in a contemporary dimension.

LANDSCAN is an audiovisual installation that aims to stimulate a deep reflection on the relationship between the human being and the natural world. The artists' work, based on their self developed technological system, focuses on the connection with nature, revealing through sound analysis and visual reinterpretation it’s unheard voice. The work imposes a reflection on the anthropocentric vision, re-examining our roles and defining nature as the guide towards future scenarios of improvement, taking into account it’s importance on the planet's natural balance. Through the sensory experience activated by LANDSCAN, the visitors are invited to consider the concept of transformation, adaptation and cyclicity present in nature and to compare it with their own personal experience of change and growth. LANDSCAN gives evidence to the current state of our naturalistic heritage by generating a global soundscape. The artistic approach of LANDSCAN lies in the interest of exploring the profound connection between nature and the human being through technological innovation. The key lies in approaching transformation with awareness, responsibility, and consideration for long-term consequences, striving for positive outcomes that benefit both our present and future. The use of technology as a creative tool, allows the artists to activate a transformative process and in consequence able to apply their proactive approach to catalyzing change and improvement rather than maintaining the status quo.The audio/video installation LANDSCAN is developed by SCHNITT (Marco Monfardini and Amelie Duchow) and Gianluca Sibaldi and is based on a system of live webcams, projections and sound generation. The webcams will be both installed in natural environments surrounding the installation site and captured in real time via the web. The system will be connected to EXTRAscan, a kind of scanner developed by the artists that can read the characteristics of any object/subject in real time and convert them into sound and video images. The research for LANDSCAPE to be carried out by the artists will be developed on two parallel levels, the relationship between sound generation and physical matter, followed by the development of EXTRAscan, a sensible device that through a scanning process recognizes and responds in real time to the physical characteristics of the scanned object.Alongside EXTRAscan, dedicated to the sound interpretation of data and video processing, for the realization of LANDSCAN, three software applications have been developed by the artists, one allowing the connection and real-time capture of public webcams located in naturalistic environments around the world, one dedicated to the processing and communication of data between the software applications themselves, and a virtual director allowing the webcams visible on the screen to be organised and selected on the basis of time zone, continents and countries. The visual result of SCANSCAPE is displayed on a large screen and the sonic outcome is sent via PA system. Based on the accessibility, the artists plan to install some webcams in naturalistic sites nearby to ideally connect the local nature with the world’s global nature.
